Well with great excitement it’s the first post; what to write? Since friends and family are most likely to be reading this (although hopefully in time this will grow) I thought I would start off with a personal project I have adored doing. This has been the design, build and decoration of the nursery for our newborn baby boy.
The tiny space was less than 3 meters square which was challenging as it needed to be multifunctional and incorporate both a nursery and a guest bed for visitors to use. Repositioning the radiator and sourcing a cotbed on wheels gave the option for the bed to be rolled into the parent’s bedroom room with ease when guests visit.
Building the new room involved erecting a stud wall complete with soundproofing and a reclaimed original Georgian door. The dado and skirting were also copied exactly so they would sit sympathetically with the existing Georgian architectural details.
Inspiration for the safari adventure scheme decoration came from some well-loved family copies of the Jean De Brunhoff Babar books (below) and both parents love of travel and adventure.

A big thank you to the wonderful Matt Davis for taking some lovely pictures of the nursery.
I hope our newborn grows up finding this an inspiring and imaginative space to sleep and play, along with the odd guest….
Fancy creating a stylish and stimulating environment for your little one? Then I can highly recommend a 'Room for Children: Stylish Spaces for Sleep and Play' by Susanna Salk for further inspiration...
